In 1999 the Sinsinawa Dominicans provided Horizon with the challenge of saving one of their original buildings constructed on their Mother Campus. The structure was known as the Academy Building and was constructed in 1882. If we were not able to find a use for this lovely structure it was to be torn down as the sisters could no longer afford to maintain it. With the utilization of WHEDA Bonds, we were able to structure the project into affordable and market rate apartments and thereby obtain the financing to completely rehab both the interior and exterior of the structure. Horizon identified the market, performed the market study, financed the project, put the team of professionals together to design the work, performed the construction, and still perform property management on the building to this day. This was a challenging project and we are proud of the work we did to save this beautiful and culturally historic structure.
