Philip J. Schultz
Philip J. Schultz is a Principal and former President of the Horizon residential and commercial divisions at our Milwaukee office. Phil joined Horizon in 1998 and became an owner/partner in 2002. Phil has been active in real estate development and construction since 1985 and specializes in the development of sustainable communities with an emphasis on senior and mixed use communities. Phil has developed and built over 2,800 units of senior housing.
A firm believer in sustainable, green communities, Phil served on the building committee for the Urban Ecology Center, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. This state-of the-art ecology center incorporates the latest green technology and provides educational experiences for children and adults in an urban setting on the banks of the Milwaukee River.
Phil is the president of the Board of Directors of the Lake Park Friends, Inc., which is actively involved in the preservation and restoration of Lake Park on the shores of Lake Michigan, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Lake Park was designed by Frederic Law Olmstead, who also designed Central Park in New York City. Phil is currently managing the restoration of the Waterfall Ravine which includes a thirty-five foot waterfall and a rain garden to improve the quality of water flowing into Lake Michigan.
Phil is an active member of the 50+ Housing Council of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and serves on the Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority’s (WHEDA) Tax Credit Advisory Committee. A dedicated supporter of affordable housing, Phil is the President of Midwest Affordable Housing Corporation (MAHC), a nonprofit corporation, which develops and owns both senior and family housing. Most recently, MAHC has developed Teutonia Gardens, a mixed used development for families, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Prior to joining Horizon, Phil worked for the Wheaton Franciscan Sisters where he developed affordable housing throughout the State of Wisconsin. Prior to that, Phil worked for the City of Milwaukee where he managed the development and construction of affordable housing and managed a portfolio of loans to nonprofit organizations.
Phil received his Bachelor’s Degree from Lawrence University, Appleton, Wisconsin and is a licensed Real Estate Broker in the State of Wisconsin.
